♦ Interlace: Resolution: 4800 x 4800: Miranda’s ‘moderate’ copy ability. As the second level of scanning, Interlace requires Miranda to be immobile and inaccessible while ‘viewing’ her target’s ability; that is, her full attention must be paid to the target in order to copy their ability at the proper ‘resolution.’ While she is scanning, Miranda is unable to attack, defend, move, or speak, but a single viewing of a target’s ability is enough to allow her to copy and reproduce that ability at the same level as the original. Energy expenditure is low for the actual scanning and moderate for the reproduction. Interlace is considered to be an ‘activated’ ability and although she is quite capable of choosing to activate it herself, she usually must be directed to perform it (by Lin or another ally.) Cannot be used if Miranda’s visor has been removed or compromised.

SUMMARY: The one who embraced the machine to escape the scars of the past.
RELATIONSHIPS:
♦ Rasputin Konstantinov: - Purchaser, Provider, Tormentor –Deceased, killed (via complete draining) by Lin immediately following the conversion. Rasputin (named after the ‘crazy’ Russian monk of the same name) was the Russian nobleman that purchased both Aylin and Miranda and was responsible for every bit of their known history. See the History section for more details.[/ul]

[/ul]WEAPONS:
Secondary Combat Note: Miranda’s general movement speed is lackadaisical, resembling a meandering walk in pace (she always appears to hover about an inch above the ground, though this is for all practical intents and purposes an optical illusion) during general combat and also non-combat motion. Thus, she finds herself in quite the conundrum when facing enemies that attack primarily from long range. As something of a balance to this, she has two ‘command dashes’ that supplement her usually slow movement. Labeled as ‘inertia dampening’ by Lin, Miranda’s backward dash is near-instantaneous, creating a space of approximately eight meters assuming her opponent is at ‘kissing’ range and is not moving forward. Her forward dash is slower (though only slightly slower than a typical Leech’s flight) and can be theoretically maintained indefinitely, as long as she has energy to spend. It should be noted that these dashes are linear – period. She cannot dash in an arc, she cannot change trajectory once her dash has begun, she cannot reproduce copied abilities while dashing, and she cannot ‘link’ dashes back-to-back (i.e., each dash has a ‘recovery’ period once it has deactivated.) Furthermore, during her forward dash her wings extend behind her, leaving her completely open to a well-aimed frontal assault. Backward dashes are low in energy expenditure; forward dashes have an exponentially increasing energy expenditure – the longer she maintains forward momentum, the more energy she consumes. These must be used exceptionally carefully, as her forward dash can eliminate her energy reserves in an alarmingly short period of time.
[/ul]HISTORY: Designation: Test Subject (“lab rat” or “first try.”) A victim of human trafficking, the woman known as Miranda Cashmere was purchased by the S-grade sexual predator and Russian nobleman/playboy Rasputin Konstantinov from an unknown source at the age of 5 years. Whether her name was real or not, the information gathered by this source summarized her as: Blood Type O negative, blonde hair, green eyes, from the southeastern United States, with no recognized genetic defects and a clean bill of health. All other information, including familial background, was either missing or simply not provided. According to the receipt in Konstantinov’s records, her purchase price was a scant $1500 U.S. dollars. As she developed, Miranda would prove little more than ‘standard’: average IQ, average body type – unremarkable in any way. She was described as ‘the median of the normal distribution curve’ and, in fact, this lack of outstanding attributes was the exact reason she was purchased. The details of the matter lie with the identity of her purchaser: Konstantinov was an enigma and suffered heavily from ‘natural’ delusions and drug-induced hallucinations. Born into expansive wealth, the nobleman developed an unhealthy infatuation with the arcane and the occult, focusing almost entirely on the work of Aleister Crowley, and readily proclaimed himself a Thelemite. As time went on, however, he diverted from the ‘standard’ interpretations of Thelema (per current day) becoming focused on ‘sex magicks’ with a stated ultimate goal of ‘bringing to physical life the goddesses of Thelema through living avatars.’ Miranda was to be the first (she was intended to be the vessel of Babalon) and unlike Aylin, was never ‘shown in public’, essentially labeling her as a personality that did not exist. The nature and details of the experiments and ceremonies performed on Miranda will not be outlined in this document, but suffice it to say that they were anything but kind to the girl. She would be Konstantinov’s main focus until the purchase of one Aylin Kovarik, whereupon she was largely discarded as a ‘failure’, thus shifting from a focus of ‘pursuit’ to one of ‘relieving frustrations.’ The ultimate result of this history was a near-complete detachment from reality, with Miranda’s main hope being a shield to absorb physical and mental insults that would otherwise have been sent Aylin’s way. It was this ‘identity’ that allowed Miranda to persist, despite previous suicidal tendencies, and also partially accounts for her form post-conversion (the other part is heavily a creation of conversations she had with Aylin about the pink-haired girl’s family and former life.)
Post-conversion, Miranda became the idealized form of the role she had taken while ‘in captivity’ in the real world, melding parts of Aylin’s reported history with her over-developed detachment. The result was the ‘humanoid computer’ she is now, where safety manifests only through the word of her operator. Commands are her directives and identify her purpose, and emotions are nothing more than the replacement for food. She is what she intended to be, a tool and shield for the only one that ever paid her positive attention.
SEE THE LIGHT:
- High endurance/defense except for the neuro-fibers connecting her blades to her back (she can take a pretty good beating otherwise)
- Exhaustive collection of data on any number of subjects, essentially a ‘photographic memory’
- Blade attacks are unpredictable and quite powerful
- Incapable of panic
- Theoretically able to be upgraded/altered to suit a variety of purposes, assuming the proper resources and specialists are available to perform the maintenance/alterations (Lin is only able to do standard maintenance on Miranda’s current ‘version’)
- Neuro-fiber weak point can theoretically take her out of a fight quickly if known and exploited
- Must be instructed to function independently; thus it is possible for her to be little more than decoration in combat. For example: if Lin places her in standby mode and Lin is then incapacitated, Miranda will remain in stand-by mode until Lin recovers or a ‘recognized user’ commands her otherwise. (Usually she is in ‘autonomous’ mode which allows her to move independently, but this possibility must be listed.)
- Is blind and unable to use her Mimic abilities if her visor is removed or compromised
- Painfully slow movement (with the exception of her dashes) and thus, weak against long-ranged attacks, lack of lateral/strafing dashes further compounds this
- Requires constant maintenance and ‘tweaking’ to function at peak capacity (is sometimes described by Lin as a ‘resource whore’)
- Obtaining and categorizing new information – Miranda is almost always in ‘observe and record mode’, in order to pick up new and potentially useful information
- Pink and/or purple objects (Lin’s favorite colors)
- Clear, specific directions and objectives
- Viruses (in general)
- Rust (or more generally stated ‘oxidation of metal’)
- Missing data entries/unreliable sources
- Failing to protect Lin – this is her only programmed fear, however she cannot act upon it unless directed or in ‘autonomous’ mode.
- There is a residual ‘fear’ of having her emotions returned to her, however, this fear would only be activated if such a situation occurred (and I’m not even sure that’s possible)
- Becoming ‘perfect’ – referring to collecting and verifying all data in the virtual world (impossible) and eliminating all individual weaknesses, thus becoming the ‘perfect’ tool/weapon/protector for Lin (also impossible)
OOC NAME: Erm… I have always used the name ‘Kai’ as my online alias… but seeing as how there already is one here, I shall compromise the spelling and make it ‘Ky’, as per the Guilty Gear character. Since we are not ‘speaking’ the name, I think that’s acceptable. If not, please let me know and I’ll come up with something else. ^_^;
AGE: Add 10 to Aylin’s age or… just look at Miranda’s.
GENDER: Male
HOW YOU FOUND US: ProBoards RP ad thread
OTHER CHARACTERS: Aylin ‘Lin’ Kovarik
ANYTHING ELSE: Although at start Miranda and Lin come as a pair, this does not always have to be the case. It’s probably stating the obvious, but I don’t want to make it seem like they are inseparable. Lin is Miranda’s primary operator, but it is certainly feasible that she will ‘loan’ Miranda to allies that she makes over time.
