all I asked for was a smile, to feel at least like one of your kind
• Skye tried to force himself to look back to no avail - it was all he could manage to keep his legs moving. If this was the old world, he would have almost certainly already passed out from exhaustion, but as it was, he could already feel his energy draining at a rapid race. His nerves were working against him, too, his somewhat lanky limbs shaking and refusing to hold him steady.
• Damned Viruses! He felt himself tear up a bit as he ran. His left wing was dragging limply behind him, an unhealed gash ripped through it. If only his wing hadn't gotten scratched on the way to the city - due to the Virus' distortion, the wound hadn't healed yet. His wings were his security. When he got into trouble, they were his escape, but now...flight was impossible. And he was already in trouble again. As if one attack hadn't been enough!
• The area behind him was turning dark. With his 'light absorption' skill activated, it burnt his energy quicker, but it extinguished any source of light he ran by. He hoped it would be enough to give him an edge if his chaser couldn't see well. But they didn't show many signs of slowing down, the footsteps pounding after him still hitting a near constant rhythm.
• If he was wise, he would probably turn around and use the power he'd absorbed from the extinguished light to launch an attack on his foe, but he was too unsteady, and he couldn't bring himself to turn around. He didn't want to know! He didn't want to know how close the other Beast was or see their animalistic face.
• He'd strayed off too far into the back alleys, and had run into a large, hulk of a man who happened to be a cougar Beast desperate for energy. The boy already knew that he was no match...and if he couldn't escape, then... He forced himself to keep moving, trying to make it too the more crowded square. "H...help! Somebody please, help!" He begged, his fear making his voice shake.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH-OWWWWWWWWWWW!"
Wishing he'd worn his helmet to bed, Lance holds his head in pain. His eyes wince and tears in equal parts in pain and in terror. As he whines, he tries to recall what acted as an alarm clock which made him jump up in his little hidey hole. "Did I hit myself so hard, I forget?"
Though he did not sleep, he'd put himself in meditative like trances. Since he couldn't sleep, it was the only way he could kill a bunch of time without using a lot of energy. He likes to do this in places he felt safe in.
Once they were willing to open, his blue eyes scanned the little crevice. To the right to him was his bat and to the left were the exit and his helmet and the exit. He couldn't believe his luck in finding it within the stone foundation It was begging for someone to take up residence. Of course, after moving in he kept.worrying that the owner will find him. However for whatever amount of time has been it feels like time to move out. He didn't feel secure in spending more than a day in one spot after taking energy.
His ears perk up. Immediately he identified the sound to be people running on the pavement. Rolling to his belly, he moves the helmet and gets to the edge of the entrance. Peering out, he thinks he shouldn't be seen as long as he didn't stick and wave anything out or try to climb out. Some distance away, there were two humanoid shapes. The one out in front was small, had wings, and looks like he was going to drop any second. Lance believed him to be a kid in danger once he screams out for help.
Watching the speed and rhythm of the two running for a few seconds, he withdraws back into the den. He gets his bat then gets back to the entrance. Hoping that the victim can at least make it past this point, he plans on tripping the massive attacker. The boy wanted to teach the bigger man that you don't go after 'innocent' people.

all I asked for was a smile, to feel at least like one of your kind
• Skye was at his wits end, having to give it everything he had just to take another step farther. He wasn't going to make it to the square - it was too far away. His legs wouldn't hold him that long. He tried in vain to flap his wings, but it was no use - the injured limb was nothing but dead weight. And in the mean time...he could hear the footsteps getting louder and louder, closer and closer.
• ...But wait! ...Was that a second pair of footsteps? The lighter pair seemed to stop after a few moments, shortly after Skye noticed them, but a sudden, unexpected growl of rage sounded soon after, followed with a thud.
• Skye was frozen for a moment, but when he realized that that thud could only mean one thing, he finally forced himself to spin back. The thug was lying on the ground. ...What? Blinking, the crow Beast then noticed the second figure. It was another boy...one who looked hardly older than himself. In his hands was a large bat. No way! Had he tripped the older man?
• But the first thing Skye did was turn back to his fallen pursuer, and, in a flash of light, release the beam he'd absorbed from the lights he'd cut off earlier during his chase. Able to use it like a laser, it was strong enough to finish of the already weakened other man, frying his chip. His figure sputtered before all at once going out. And all at once, Skye felt a rejuvenating wave of energy move instead to his body - the energy of the other Beast was now his. Heh, ironic. His pursuer surely hadn't planned things to turn out this way. Of course...this was thanks too...
• Suddenly feeling a bit awkward, he turned back towards the other boy. If he'd been polite, he probably should've offered the kill, and therefore, the ever precious energy, to the one who'd saved him. But he'd been desperate after the long chase...for a moment, he'd almost forgotten he was there. Skye scratched the back of his head. "T...thank you!" He grinned, genuinely grateful. "If you hadn't showed up..." He wasn't unusually one to want a whole lot of interaction, but then again, this other boy had saved him and hadn't gotten any else for it. He at least deserved a thank you. The black-winged Beast held out his hand in the offer of a hand shake. "Skye Asherei." He introduced.

Looks at the opening and the size of his bat. He didn't want to test it to make sure, but thinks he has enough room where he could swing the bat. Doing so will do more damage to the attacker than simply letting him trip and let gravity do the work. Winding up, he sees that the smaller beast runs by.
Taking a few deep breaths, he calmly listens for the larger runner get closer and closer. The steps sound like they belong to a hulk of man with heavy footwear, most likely boots. Lance imagination came up with a quick sketch of what it's possibly could be. The image was of a T-rex who was screaming muted roars. Knowing that he'll strike it in the kneecap, he swings to here the clank of the bat against the bone of the leg. His aim was just a bit off as it hits the middle area of the lower leg. The force was enough to cause the man to growl in anger and pain, trip, and land hard unto the ground.
The cat beast sends himself out, quickly getting to his feet and facing the older beasts. His eyes were solely focused on the cougar, whose features were out for the world to see. As he wasn't getting up, Lance's mind assumes it's safe enough to think it was an idiot of a feline. Chasing him for so long wasn't worth it, unless you can immediately catch up to him before others can get involved. Besides, with them screaming and heading towards help would serve as a big distraction in getting a different victim in sparsely populated place.
.His thoughts get interrupted by him jumping a few feet backwards, as the smaller beast incinerates the cougar. His heart was stilling to ram out of his chest when he realized that the winged-boy was doing the smart thing and finishing it off before he could get up and try to attack them. Fine by him, as his paranoia would suggest letting the other boy take the kill. That way, there shouldn't be a reason that the rescued would need a reason to feed on the rescuer.
Skye would see that his knight-wielding-a-shiny-bat was probably one the most tacky dresser in the virtual world. On his head are white cat ears. Then he can see he's wearing a baby blue t-shirt, which was tucked under a red belt that held up baggy brown cargo pants, The black boots are obviously too large for him, with extra laces tied to his legs as it suggest he was aware enough about the problem.
Being talked to, he realizes that means the uncovered ears are more than visible. Though not thinking if the winged-boy was concerned with talking to a beast he would've done something, he wanted to grab his helmet to make sure no one else knows the fact of what he is. Putting on the helmet, he sees a hand stick out as the boy introduced himself by full name. Lance sounds and looks unsure. He hadn't had engaged with people too often to bother to remember to shake people's hands. "I'm Lance."
Even if he'd bother to listen to Skye earlier, he'd not know how to respond to it. It was awkward to try to speak with people when he doesn't know what to ask of him. His faces tells Skye that he's in thought about something, as the Siamese tries to plan what he should do now.

all I asked for was a smile, to feel at least like one of your kind
• As he waited to see if the other boy would accept his handshake, he studied him more closely. In his hands was the bat he'd used to trip up his pursuer, its surface shiny even in the dim light of the alley way. Putting the outfit aside, the other thing he noticed immediately were the feline ears adorning the boy's head. Oh, from the look of it, the boy was yet another Beast!
• As if the boy himself had just realized he'd noticed, he quickly adjusted the helmet he was wearing to hide the ears that had given him away. He wanted to hide them even though Skye himself was clearly a Beast as well? The boy suddenly felt slightly self conscious - maybe the other boy had a point. There would be a lot of advantages to keeping his race, especially when it was a race so generally hated as a Beast, hidden, wouldn't there? Absently, he wondered if he should try to come up with some way of hiding his wings...
• But while he was momentarily lost in thought, he suddenly heard the other boy's voice. ...Lance, huh? He didn't say anything else, and never took his hand. Suppressing a slight, bewildered frown, Skye moved his hand to instead scratch the back of his head.
• Had he done something to make his rescuer mad? Maybe he should've made sure to save the chip for him, after all... But... From the distracted, unsure look on his face, there was clearly something else on his mind. It didn't look like irritation, more like confusion or uncertainty. Skye blinked. "...Eh? Is something wrong?" He asked, wondering what was bothering the other Beast.

Watching in quiet contemplation from a nearby window, a woman stood. Her piercing blue eyes watching as the children attacked, and defeated, a Virus that was larger than both of them. She quietly admired their drive, but at the same time felt uneasy. The Viruses were still being persecuted, as they were still an alleged 'evil force.'
The woman slid her coat on, and headed down to greet the two boys, a smile on her face. "I saw your act of bravery." She started, her voice almost a gravelly whisper. "It was commendable. Be wary, however. You will never know when a virus may be watching you take out its friend." She said, a smile on her face as she looked between the two. A chill blew through, as the woman wasn't able to completely control her corruption. She had hoped, however, the kids wouldn't notice this, as she had other plans than being attacked today.
"Your wing is wounded." She said slowly, reaching out toward Skye. It would heal, she knew, but her motherly instincts were hard to control at times. "You need energy, so that will heal." She said with a nod, and then realized she hand't introduced herself yet. "Im sorry for my rudeness. My name is Alyssa. It is nice to meet you two." She said, bowing slightly.

As the bat shines in the light, Lance made sure to have the business-end pointed away from Skye. He wasn't proud of the cratered tool and wanted to make sure that show his intention wouldn't include taking him out. The ears were another thing he didn't have pride in, which is why he hid them. It didn't feel good to kill to survive, but he tries to make up for the fact with killing the 'nonhuman' Hollows and any one with a bad reputation as a criminal. For the last nine and eleven twelfths years, he can confidently say that his targets were acceptable. He's just afraid that someone may not want a beast around or agree with that view point.
As they both stood there awkwardly, the young boy wish he could think of something to say to the winged-boy. He wasn't being silent because he wanted him to leave, just that it was as difficult to say something as it would to be warm while naked in a snow bank. He would love to keep some company, if he knew he would to keep it. Figuring that saving Skye might make him be friendly towards himself.
Then it came to him what else saving him might do, as Skye asks if there was something the matter. Scratching the back of his head, there was a need that he always needed fulfilling. Though seeming unsure of himself, “Uhm... Do you... Got a place you stay at that's safe? Skye?”
As he waits for an answer, his ears pick up that someone was walking towards him. Having the bat turned to it's side, he looks to see that a woman was all ready a few feet in front of him. As this alleyway could be mistaken as a convention of black haired people, the woman began to speak to them. His instincts and paranoia flares. She manage to come up to them without them knowing, her statement is both suspicious and notes that she was watching them, seems to be fine with the fact of two beasts, and it seems colder for no reason. He doesn't an idea what virus' corruption can do, but he's willing to count anything against her at this point.
It didn't help he was possessive of Skye, when the woman went to reach for the wing. Lance shoves Skye, backwards, and stands in front of him. Growling, “Go away, idiot! You want something, I know it! I'll fight you if you don't leave us alone.”
Not yet at the point of wanting to fight someone, there's a chance the two might talk him into standing down. His bat still remains at his side, not yet up and ready for hitting. He thinks that for helping Skye, if a fight breaks out, he'll either just help or flee. The Siamese didn't want that, as he might lose a potential safe house.

all I asked for was a smile, to feel at least like one of your kind
• “Uhm... Do you... Got a place you stay at that's safe? Skye?”
• Skye tilted his head for a moment. Somewhere safe? Did that mean that this other boy, Lance, was looking for somewhere to stay? "Well..." He started, unsure. It wasn't that he wouldn't like company - quite the opposite, in fact - but his Hollow mother made that difficult... "I have a home not too far from here. You can stay if you want, I suppose." It was only right to offer - after all, like it or not, the other Beast had saved him. "But my mother... Well maybe if you just ignore her, she might not even notice..." He muttered, partially to himself as he went over the situation in his head.
• But before he could say anything else, another voice spoke - a new one, this one's tone feminine, yet somehow oddly chilled. He felt a shiver run down his spine; not necessarily out of fear, yet he couldn't quite pinpoint why. He'd only run into Viruses a few times in his life, and all of those encounters were memories that he wanted to forget.
• There is a not of something sinister in the older woman's first words, but there was a smile on her face as she watched them. Skye couldn't help but flinch somewhat nervously, though, as she reached out towards his injured wing. "I know!" He spat back almost defensively, like a young child who had just been told the answer to a question that they had been to embarrassed to ask. He hadn't actually known. Hearing that the wound would in fact eventually heal with more energy was a relief. He wasn't quite sure how she knew, but she seemed to know what she was talking about, somehow. Alyssa...the woman introduced herself with a casual bow.
• But Lance reacted even more defensively. The Beast felt the other boy's weight shove him away, Lance moving to stand between him and the strange woman. Momentarily stunned, it took Skye a few moment's to recover. ...Why was the other boy trying to protect him again now? He wasn't sure what to do at first. It was true that the woman seemed strange somehow, but... "Lance..." He whispered quietly, his voice somewhat unsure. "I dunno, the lady seems okay, to me..."

The womans face twisted into a slight frown as Lance took a defensive stance. "Please... I mean no harm. I just worry..." She said, sighing slightly. Her face turned to a scowl as Lances words echoed in her head. "Listen, boy." Her voice sounded more harsh as she spoke now. "You need to learn your place, and not threaten people trying to help, you may make them mad... You wouldn't want that, would you?"
As she spoke, the Virus lost control of some of her distortion, freezing the ground below her almost instantly. It crept outward in all directions, and finally stopped when there was a frosted over area about three feet wide. Finally Alyssa regained control, and looked at the two with pleading eyes. "You two must get away from here... There are viruses everywhere..." She spoke, her voice almost sounded pained as she tried to keep her Virus side under control.
