The real world is only a memory...[/font]
[/blockquote]Technology was the way of the future, but no one thought it would end up quite like this. Ten years ago, by causes and means currently unknown, the human race was mass converted into data. Unable to exist in the 'real world', humankind, changed from the conversion, became trapped in the virtual landscape that it still calls home today.
No one knew for sure what happened to the real world. Some people claimed that it was completely gone. Others claimed that it was where people returned to when they perished and lost their virtual form. But whatever the case, the human race had no choice but to press forward, these questions unanswered. They took on new forms, altered by their own inner wishes, thoughts, and personalities as they discovered a new way of life.
At first it seemed almost like a dream. After all, technology was invented to help bring the desires and imaginations of users to life, and this was never more apparent than now, when humans became a physical force in cyberspace. Anything was possible. They could change their reality with only their minds, the locations and places to see were nearly endless, and they could speak to anyone from anywhere.
But it wasn't long before some drawbacks were discovered. People no longer age - children never grow up. And no new children can be born. Humankind is frozen. That is, except for death.
It was realized that a strange energy is what gives them this physical presence in cyberspace. And as it was soon discovered, only a certain amount of this energy exists in this virtual dimension, and it's constantly diminishing. Running out of it means death. And there is only one way to gain more - steal it from someone else.
This pixelated paradise only offers two options - kill or die.
Humankind has begun destroying itself, steadily decreasing in numbers as individuals frantically fight for what life there is left in this world. And if that wasn't enough, strange creatures called viruses have also appeared, spreading more fear and destruction.
Perhaps this virtual landscape isn't such a utopia after all...
